Paul published his first articles, poems and stories in the mid-'90s and he has now published eight books, including one ghostwritten title:
- The Desert Swimmer (ghostwritten memoir for Brendan Cullen, 2026)

- Matters of Life and Faith (creative non-fiction, 2021)
- We. Are. Family. (novel, 2016)

- Dodging the Bull (short fiction, 2007)
- Awake Despite the Hour (poetry, 2007)
- Minorphysics (poetry, 2003)
He has won, been placed or commended in several national awards for poetry and short fiction. He has written for screen and stage, including the acclaimed play You're the Man, produced at La Mama Theatre, Carlton Courthouses in 2024. His latest play, The Ballad of Dan O'Malley: A Football Tragedy, will hit the stage at Theatreworks St. Kilda in August 2026.
